Governor’s Cup Winner x 3 🏆

We’re so excited to announce that our ‘22 Seyval Blanc has won the Governor’s Cup at the NC Wine Competition! This wine received the highest score of all the 300+ wines submitted this year! We’ve always loved our Seyval, it has been a best seller since we opened 15 years ago, and we’re happy to see it shine so brightly.

This is our third year in a row taking home this award! Our Meritage won the cup in ‘21 and Petit Verdot in ‘22. We’re honored to be recognized among the top NC producers and congratulate all of our team, from the vineyard crew to our winemakers and tasting room staff, for their hard work crafting and promoting these excellent wines!

Several of our other wines won medals too. Congrats to all of the NC wineries that won awards (full results here).

Double Gold: ‘22 Seyval Blanc, ‘22 Tangled Oak Blanc, ‘19 Petit Verdot

Gold: ‘19 Cabernet Franc, ‘21 Cellar Select, WRC Resolve, WRC Midnight Run Grand Reserve

Late Bloomers 🍇

Once again, it’s that time of year when the grapes begin to turn soft, sweet, and purple! This processes (called “veraison”) transforms the berries from a hard, sour state into the fruit we know and love. It’s a significant milestone on the road to harvest.

This year, veraison has occurred a couple weeks later than in prior years. We think this is perhaps because of the relatively mild weather we experienced at the start of summer. Grapes need hot sunny days to grow and develop, and the cooler than normal temps of May and June may have contributed to a slight delay in the ripening process. Regardless, these grapes are now well on their way to ripeness, and we can’t wait to start taste-testing them. Some of our early-ripening varieties like Seyval Blanc may be ready in two to three weeks! Harvest is right around the corner 🚜

Coming soon: brand new wines!

We completed another big bottling this past month, and that means new wines will be released soon. We’re very excited to add two new dry wines to the Windsor Run lineup.

Fieldstone is a white blend made from 50% Valvin Muscat and 50% Albarino. Lower acid and a bit of fermentation skin contact make for an interesting and deep white wine. Think warm citrus, stone fruit, baking spice, and phenolic undertones from the skins.

Ember is a light bodied red made in a ‘young red’ style. It is comprised 100% of 2022 vintage Malbec but has not been oak-aged (so don’t expect an Argentine Malbec!). We recommend this wine be served slightly chilled. Chillable reds are trendy right now, and we had this in mind when producing it!

Be on the lookout for these two, we will release them soon!

P.S.

Shadow Springs will also be releasing a new white wine soon. We’ve revived a classic - our Stainless Steel fermented Chardonnay! This wine makes a nice compliment to our Tangled Oak Chardonnay. Which will you choose: oak or steel??
