Back in 2020, pre-COVID-19, I was lucky to receive a scholarship opportunity to attend the Women in Wine Exposition in Georgia (the country, not the close-by neighbor state!). This organization was founded by Senay Ozdemir with the mission of bringing greater economic power to women in the wine business.

Due to the pandemic, the conference was postponed two years in a row, but this May it was officially back on, and Kevin (Windsor Run’s other winemaker) decided to join me and tag along for the ride! I’m so proud to have participated in this powerful event surrounded by incredible women winemakers, business owners, sommeliers, and industry journalists. The wine industry is a relatively small one and is still mostly male dominated, however, this is slowly changing and more women are entering this profession. The WIWE is an incredibly unique event to get women from all over the world into one room to discuss ideas and important issues regarding our industry. I made some great friends and contacts that I look forward to seeing again at the next Expo, wherever it may be!

Baby Grapes 🍇

Outside of a few bad storms, the vineyard is doing well. We escaped the dangers of spring frosts, but Mother Nature never sits still! She hit us with a hailstorm late last month that destroyed one of our vineyard sites. Overall though, the vines are growing like weeds and are hanging full of baby grapes.

We’ve recently finished shoot positioning the vineyard. This involves tucking all the green growth into the trellis catch wires so that the vine continues to grow upright, exposing the canopy to sunlight and a cool breeze. It’s important to get this job done early in the season before the vines get too bushy and tangled. Soon it will be time to give these vines their first haircut of 2022, and we are ready with a brand new hedger straight form Germany.

At this point in the season, we are just waiting on the vines to keep growing. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for good weather, and hopefully ‘22 will turn out to be a great year to grow some wine!

WRC Resolve

We’re excited to announce the release of a new dry red wine at Windsor Run! Resolve is a smooth, bold, full bodied red comprised of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Chambourcin.

Come out to the tasting room this weekend to try some for yourself, and if you can’t make it up to Hamptonville our wines are also available online at the link below!
